Felt is a natural and renewable material, made of 100% wool.
Founder Alex Lahtinen established the felt boot company Huopaliike Lahtinen in 1921 in an old sauna. The family has been fabricating felt boots the old fashion way ever since in the same place.
This is a traditional Finnish product from a traditional Finnish company.
Making felted footwear requires plenty of energy and time. Felt slippers and boots are made of 100% pure wool.
In the beginning the boot is about twice as big as the final product. The base boot is then fulled until the wanted size and hardness is reached. Finally they are stretched to the desired size.
care:
Felted footwear should not get wet, because they might loose their shape, or even shrink. Surface cleaning is done with a brush. If the surface goes really "hairy" it can be carefully removed with a disposable razor.
Storage place should be dark, and please take care of moth protection, because their is no anti-moth protection on slippers.

Felt is biodegradable and can be composted. Biodegradation is the process by which organic substances are broken down by living organisms. Composting converts biodegradable waste into compost.
Old clothes and textiles that are suitable for reuse can be recycled in charity shops or placed in clothes recycling bins.
Textile waste that is not suitable for reuse is first sorted by type, colour and grade. The material is then shredded into fibers. High grade shoddy is mixed with virgin fiber and spun into new fiber. Low grade shoddy will be recycled as wipes, stuffing for cushions, carpet underlay, mattress padding and cotton swabs.
All we can say is there is nothing better than coming home to a soft pair of thick felt slippers. For optimum enjoyment Matteria recommends a minimum per day usage of 2 to 4 hours. If u can pull it off we highly applaud all day usage for a truly transcendental experience! Made of one single piece of moulded felt. Simply genius! Designed and made in Finland.
